Going together. Going steady.  We're closed off from dating others.  These are some dating terms I've heard.  (TBH that last one is from Love Island but I love it so it stays)  Have you tried to talk to your single friends about dating?  All the different stages are called something else.  And honestly, I don't know if dating stages is appropriate to say either.  Dating terms I guess feels better.  There are a lot of them and I do not want you to get lost in the sea with all the other fish so this hand guide should catch you right up so you know when you're being Hansel and Greteled.  Good luck and date on my friend!

  • Intentional Dating/Dating Intentionally:.
Daters are becoming more clear about their needs and expectations early on, seeking deeper connections and compatibility from the start.

  • This involves taking more time to get to know someone, prioritizing meaningful connections over quick hookups, a trend fueled by the information overload from dating apps.

  • Choosing to date without alcohol can lead to more authentic and genuine connections, avoiding awkward situations and bad judgment.

Trends Embracing Spontaneity and Openness:

  • This trend encourages dating curiously and spontaneously, saying "yes" to dates with people outside one's usual "type" to explore new possibilities.
  • Similar to wildflowering, this trend encourages open-ended dating experiences without immediate commitment or labeling, focusing on enjoying the process of getting to know someone.

Trends Reflecting a Shift in Communication:

  • Loud Looking: Some singles are taking a more assertive approach to dating, openly expressing their desires and intentions, often in public spaces.

  • Being Specific About Needs: Daters are becoming more upfront about their preferences and dealbreakers, using dating app profiles to clearly state what they are looking for.

  • Hardballing: From the start, being direct and honest about relationship expectations.

Toxic Dating Trends to be Aware Of:

  • Throning: Dating someone primarily for social status and the potential to boost one's own image.

  • Floodlighting: Sharing intensely personal details too early in the relationship, potentially creating a false sense of intimacy or causing discomfort.

  • Roaching: Hiding the fact that you are dating multiple people at once.

  • Kittenfishing: Misleading others online without blatant lies (a less extreme version of catfishing).

  • Banksying: A slow fade-out from a relationship, where communication gradually decreases without a formal end.

  • Ghosting/Cloaking/Fizzling/Breadcrumbing: Various ways to end a relationship without clear communication.
