Is It Still Faux Pas To Wear White To A Wedding?

There are a few fashion rules that have stood the test of time and they both revolve around the color white.  Can you wear white before Memorial Day and can you wear white to a wedding?  White before Memorial Day is a whole different beast we'll conquer another time.

June is the quintasensual 'wedding season' but its also such a hot month and lets be honest, when we're all golden and bronze in the summer, we want to wear white! It's flattering AF.

The short answer? Can I wear white to a wedding? Probably not.

For generations, white has traditionally been reserved for the bride.  Most brides spend months choosing the perfect dress, and guests generally try to avoid wearing anything that could compete with it.

That doesn't mean you have to avoid every outfit that contains a little white.  A floral dress is my ultimate go to wedding guest wear.  The bigger concern is an outfit that looks predominantly white, ivory, cream, or champagne in photos or from a distance.

Of course, there are exceptions. Some couples want an all-white dress code for guests or have unique themes that encourage wearing white. If that's the case, follow their lead.

At the end of the day, wedding guest fashion isn't really about rules. It's about respect. The wedding day belongs to the couple, and not you or your white dress.
